Day V

Just Imagine . . . Living Happily Ever After
A Real Fun-Folk-Tale-Fable Workshop in Weaving
Metaphorical TALES to TRANCE-FORM your patient

You will learn the skills needed for you to become the "Tailor of Tales". On this day you will learn how to construct metaphorical stories which, initially, mimic your patient's problem, and which ultimately, suggest a positive resolution, meant to target the subconscious.

  Workshop Outline:

  • Understanding the hero's journey
  • How to actually weave that tale
  • The specific parts of the hero's journey
  • Sample stories written by therapists
  • Workshop in creating a tale
  • Sharing and critique of each other's stories

Learning Objectives for Metaphorical Tales

At the conclusion of the session, by observation, by the instructor, or by the demonstration with another student, students will be able to…

  • Discuss the various steps of the hero’s journey.
  • Discuss the tale he has created which was a homework assignment on DAY I in the Ericksonian presentation. Demonstate how this applies to a metaphorically presented problem and a symbolic resolution oriented to a given patient.
  • Evaluate and analyze the individual tales which were created and the applications to a particular patient issue.

The students will, individually, evaluate the training and discuss how he/she will integrate these learnings with previously utilized psychotherapeutic and hypnotherapeutic techniques.  The students will enjoy the celebration of the completion of the class, indeed, the final stage of the hero’s journey, as they graduate and receive their certificates of completion.

Integrating Hypnotic Techniques into Patient Treatment

This is the concluding session. In addition to being a summary session, this session provides the practitioner with the tools to analyze the patient and use appropriate methodology and timing for hypnosis treatment.  The best treatment procedures often involve combining various techniques to achieve the treatment goals.  Working with a patient who responds to direct rather than indirect suggestions requires modifications of a particular procedure to meet the need.  Outline:

>> Summary review
>> Hypnosis technique selection
>> Combining techniques ("Mixing and Matching")
>> Case Discussion
>> Practice and supervision
>> Course evaluation
>> Graduation and Certification
>> Celebration

Learning Objectives for "Integration" - At the close of this session, you will be able to:

  • Analyze a patient case to determine the appropriate methodolgies for treatment.
  • Discuss how to select hypnosis techniques for patient treatment and integrate these procedures with the psychotherapeutic interventions previously utilized.
  • Perform a combination of hypnosis techniques to effectively deal with the patient.
  • Demonstrate integration ("mixing & matching") of at least two procedures.
  • Demonstrate weaving of learnings into previously realized behavior.

"Informative beyond my expectations, effective, insightful, impactful, and most important of all, immediately meaningful and useful".

Dr. Elly is co-author with her patient, Shawn Regan, of the book Brain Storms! He writes his own true story of his therapy which trance-formed his entire life, while Dr. Elly's commentary at the close of each chapter offers the exact psychotherapeutic, hypnotherapeutic, and NLP procedures she utilized with this patient. Therapists have exclaimed that it is a good review of many of the tools presented in this workshop. Since the patient is a celebrity writer/cartoonist, the book reads like a novel.
